Granny Christmas Tree Ornament
Made up of 2 granny squares of 2 different sizes. Quick and easy. The hard part is the assembly.  
Materials:
Size 6 Steel Hook
Green size 10 bedspread thread
 
Granny Square 1 (GS1)
Ch 4, join to form a loop

Round 1: ch 3, 2 dc in loop, ch 3 (3 dc in loop, ch 3) 2 times, 3 dc in loop, ch 1, hdc in 3rd ch of beg ch 3.

Round 2: ch 3, dc around hdc just made, [dc in next 3 dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in corner loop] 3 times, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in 1st corner loop, ch 1, hdc in 3rd ch of beg ch 3.

Round 3: ch 3, dc around hdc just made, [dc in each dc across to corner, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in corner loop] 3 times, dc in each dc across to corner, 2 dc in 1st corner loop, ch 1, hdc in 3rd ch of beg ch 3. Finish off


Granny Square 2 (GS2)
Do GS1, do not finish off

Round 4: repeat round 3. Finish off.

Two Granny Squares


Assembly
1. Cut a 8" piece of thread of the same color. I used white so you can see the string placement. Turn GS2 to wrong side, insert hook around the post of the middle dc on the side on round 3 (see picture).
2. YO and pull thru. Do this on all 4 sides.
3. Pull thread ends together tight to bunch up the square.
4. Tie thread in a knot (doesn't have to be real tight) and pull thru the top (center loop).
5. Do steps 1 to 4 for GS1 only using round 2 instead of round 3 to weave the thread thru.
6. Pull thread from GS2 thru the top (center loop) of GS1. Tie ends of thread together to form a hanger.
