Lone Star
8 inch square with a 7 inch option.
Designed for Texas ladies who love to crochet. 
Materials:
H Hook
Variegated Worsted Weight yarn
Also good with Solid Red, White, and Blue.  
For Tri-color example, follow between { and } in instructions below.

{with white} Ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join to 1st sc.
Round 1: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join to 1st sc.

Round 2: [ch 5, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, skip next sc on ring, sl st in next sc] 5 times, sl st in 1st ch of beg ch 5 to join.

Round 3: Sc in same st as joining, [*2 sc up the star point, 3 sc in point, 2 sc down the star point,* sc in sl st between points] 4 times and * to * once more, join to 1st sc. Star Made.

{Finish off. Join Blue to any star point and continue from @ on next round}

Round 4: Sl st in next 3 sc (to the top of point), @ [*ch 4, dc in next sc between points, ch 4*, sc in next point] 4 times and * to * once more, join to 1st sc.

Round 5: Sl st in next loop, ch 1, 4 sc in each loop around, join to 1st sc.

Round 6: Ch 4, (trc, ch 2, 2 trc) in same as joining, [*dc in next 3 sc, hdc in next 3 sc, dc in next 3 sc*, (2 trc, ch 3, 2 trc) in next sc] 3 times and * to * once more, join to 3rd ch of beg ch 4. {Finish off Blue. Join Red to any corner sp and continue from @ on next round}

Round 7: Sl st to corner, @ ch 4, (dc, ch 1) 3 times in corner [*(skip next st, dc in next st, ch 1) 6 times*, (dc, ch 1) 4 times in corner] 3 times and * to * once more, join to 3rd ch of beg ch 4.

Round 8: Sl st to corner sp (2nd sp of corner), (ch 3, dc, ch 3, 2dc) in corner sp, [*dc in each dc and sp to corner*, (2dc, ch 3, 2dc) in corner] 3 times and * to * once more, join to 3rd ch of beg ch 3. For 7 inch square, finish off {Red}.

Round 9: Sl st to corner, ch 4, (dc, ch 1) 3 times in corner [*(skip next dc, dc in next st, ch 1) acorss*, (dc, ch 1) 4 times in corner] 3 times and * to * once more, join to 3rd ch of beg ch 4. Finish off, weave in the ends and admire the coolest square of the coolest squares!
