Ch 4, join to form a loop
Round 1: Ch 1 (sc in loop, ch 3) 8 times, join to 1st sc.
Round 2: Sl st in next loop, ch 1, sc in same loop, ch 3, (sc in next loop, ch 3) around, join to 1st sc.
Round 3: Sl st in next loop, ch 1,sc in same loop, ch 4, (sc in next loop, ch 4) around, join to 1st sc.
Round 4: ch 1, sc in same st as joining, 3 sc in next loop, (sc in next sc, 3 sc in next loop) around, join to 1st sc.
Round 5: Ch 3, dc in same as joining, dc in next sc, (2 dc in next sc, dc in next 2 sc) around to last sc, 2 dc in last sc, join to 3rd ch of beg ch 3.
Round 6: Ch 5 (counts as trc, ch 1) (trc, ch 1) 3 times in same st as joining, [*sk 1 dc, dc in next 2 dc, hdc in next 4 dc, dc in next 2 dc, ch 1, skip next dc*, (trc, ch 1) 4 times (corner made)] 3 times and * to * once more, join to 4rd ch of beg ch 5.
Round 7: Ch 4, skip next sp and next trc, (dc, ch 1) 4 times in next sp, [*skip next trc, sp, dc in next trc, ch 1, skip next sp, (dc in next 2 st, ch 1, skip next st) 2 times, dc in next 2 st, ch 1, skip next sp*, dc in next trc, ch 1, skip next sp and next trc, (dc, ch 1) 4 times in next sp] 3 times and * to * once more, join to 3rd ch of beg ch 4.
Round 8: Sl st in next sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 4, sc in next sp, ch 4 [*(sc, ch 5, sc) in corner sp, (ch 4, sc in next sp) 8 times*, ch 4, sc in corner sp] 3 times and * to * once more doing only 6 (ch 4, sc), join in to 1st sc.
Round 9: Sl st to next ch 4 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 3, sc in next sp, ch 3, [(sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch 5 sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) across, ch 3] 4 times, join to 1st sc.
Round 10: Sl st to next ch 3 sp, ch 1, 2 sc in each sp, and 3 sc in each corner ch 3 sp around. Join to 1st sc.
Round 11: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next 5 sc, [(2 dc, ch 2, 2dc) in 2nd sc in corner, dc in each sc to corner sc] 3 times, dc across to 1st dc, join to 3rd ch of beg ch 3. Finish off. Will join same color to corner to make this easier to count.
Round 12: Join with a sl st to any corner ch 2 sp, ch 1, [(sc, ch 5, sc) in corner, (ch 4, skip 1 dc, sc BETWEEN next 2 dc) 12 times, ch 4] 4 times, join to 1st sc.
Round 13: Sl st in next ch 5 sp, ch 1 [(sc, ch 3, sc) in corner ch 5 sp, (ch 3, sc in next loop) 13 times, ch 3] 4 times, join to 1st sc.
Round 14: St st to ch 3 corner, ch 1 [5 sc in corner ch 3 loop, 2 sc in each loop across] 4 times, join to 1st sc.
Round 15: Ch 1, sc in each sc and 3 sc in each 3rd sc of corner. Finish Off. This round can be done in HDC or DC if you don't quite have a 12 inch square.
NOTE: instead of doing round 14 and 15, you can do round 14 as follows:
Round 14: St st to ch 3 corner, ch 2, 4 hdc in corner, [2 hdc in each loop across, 5 hdc in corner ch 3 loop] 3 times, 2 hdc in each loop across, join to 2nd ch of beg ch 2. Finish off.
