Turkey Square
This pattern is quite confusing, and really needs to be tested. If someone out there will test it for me, I will give you credit for testing!

This is a square I did for a months of the year afghan.

Materials:
Materials:
I hook
Worsted weight yarn in the following colors:
-Cream, Light Brown, Brown, Maroon, Orange, Cornmeal - you can really use any fall colors, these are just the ones I had on hand. Good for scraps, for some of these will only make one or 2 rounds of scs.
-Small amounts of Black and Red
Yarn Needle

Some Assembly Required
There are several color changes in this pattern
Rounds 8,9,10 and 12,13,14 are a bit confusing, but once you get the general pattern, it's a bit easier. Also, if it doesn't come out just right, that's alright, it's supposed to give a random effect anyway.

Special Stitchs:
LDC - long dc: works just like a dc, only you do it in the row below the one you are working. On this pattern, each LDC will be done in the next skipped st on the row below.
ch 1 sk - ch 1, skip next st

With light brown, ch 4, join to form a loop
Round 1: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join to 3rd chain of beg ch 3 (12 dc) Make note the side facing you is the right side.

Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, 2 dc in each dc around, join to 3rd chain of beg ch 3 (24 dc)

Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next dc, (2dc in next dc, dc in next dc) around, join to 3rd chain of beg ch 3 (36 dc)

Round 4: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times, TURN work, ch 1, sc in last dc made (ch 2, skip next dc, sc in next dc) 11 times (makes 11 loops) finish off light brown. TURN work to RIGHT side, join cream to 1st dc not worked on round 3, ch 3, sl st to brown at the top of the dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times, join cream to 3rd chain of light brown beg ch 3.

Round 5: Holding right side facing you, and working behind light brown loops, sl st in 1st skipped dc on round 4, ch 1, sc in same st, ch 3, (sc in next unworked dc behind light brown loop, ch 3) to the cream, then (skip dc, sc in next dc, ch 3) around. Join to 1st sc.

Round 6: Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, sc in next loop, 2 dc in next loop, (2 trc, ch 3, 2trc) in next loop (corner made) [2dc in next loop, sc in next loop, sc in next sc, sc in next loop, 2 dc in next loop, (2 trc, ch 3, 2trc) in next loop] 3 times, 2 dc in next loop, sc in next loop, join to 1st sc.

Round 7: Ch 3, dc in next 4 st, (2dc, ch 3, 2dc) in ch 3 loop (corner made) [dc in next 13 st, (2dc, ch 3, 2dc) in ch 3] 3 times, dc in next 8 st, join to 3rd ch of beg ch 3. Finish off cream.

Finishing touches:

Sew a beak with orange yarn
For the waddle, do a beg 3 dc group at base of head with red. Join red to the base of the head, ch 3, (yo, insert hook in next sc, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull thru 2 loops ) twice, yo and pull thru all 3 loops on hook. Finish off.

See picture for all assembly questions. Hope you had fun with this! I know I did!!!

Below is a graphical illustration of how the rows should look.
Each time a block goes up, it's a ch 1, skip next st
Each time a block goes down, it's a LDC over ch 1 sp in unworked st on round below
A block is an sc in next st
